2014 Toyota Corolla - convenience only

+1 vote
Hi,

I want to wire up our telematics unit to a 2014 Toyota Corolla for convenience features only (door lock and unlock only).  Do I need to plug into the CANbus to do this, or can it be done by pulsing the solenoids?

If I can do it just by pulsing the solenoids, does anyone know which wire I use to wake up the car?? The car seems to sleep and disable the solenoids after a few minutes.

If I have to use a CANbus connection... it looks like there's no firmware for the 2014 model Corollas with the Fortin units. Could I use an older G key firmware to do it??

Note: I dont need remote starter.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

The latest Toyota firmware should work for Can features for the 2014.

On another note, you only need it for lock/unlock though so personally, just wiring it is probably the better solution.

The wires you would need are negative trigger:

Lock & Arm :

  • Blue
  • Driver kick panel, white 20 pin plug, pin 4

Unlock & Disarm:

  • Light Green
  • Driver kick panel, white 14 pin plug, pin 2
  • requires a double pulse

There is more information available on wiring in the wirecolor for this car.

Thanks Robert... I've noticed on some other model vehicles (not Toyotas.. last one I did was a Honda) that the BCM seems to shut down about 2 minutes after the car doors are locked, which means the unlock & disarm doesn't do anything.  Does this also happen on the Toyota's, and is there any way to avoid this or wake the car again?

Just making sure so we don't hit any surprises on Friday. We have 3 Toyota's to do.
That's a problem we are aware of and unfortunately there is no solution for it.

This 2014 Corolla is still being tested.
Thanks.. we found a solution on the Honda (we can wake up the bcm with another point).

So is this a known issue on Toyotas? I'm not sure wheher thats what you mean by your previous comment.
We have no solutions for the 2014 Key model. Anyone who wants to try the latest firmwares (BETA and/or recommended) can always do so at their own will to see if they can get any Can-Bus coverage. This is why i said "should work" in the earlier post.

Something I didn't know which was brought to my attention when I asked about your sleep issue, was that their have been cases in which people have said they had tried using the EVO for Can features but had issues with locks not working after X amount of time.

Hope this makes some sense.
